I live in Brighton, MI with my husband and 2 daughters, ages 12 and 9.  I  was a Kindergarten teacher before my kids were born.   Now, in addition to ZUMBA, I work part-time at Hartland Eye Care and Visual Learning Center as a Visual Therapist.

Since my teens, I have struggled a bit with my weight.  It helped that I was active growing up.  I was a gymnast from 8-13 years old.  But after having children, I just kept gaining.  I joined a gym, but I HATED to go.  I only went 12 times during my 3 year membership.

I am so excited that I found something that I LOVE to do AND it helps me lose weight and get fit!
I am really close with my Mom, Jan and my sister, Michele.  They both come to my class.
My hubs has his "hands full"!  He is kinda out-numbered.
I love to DANCE, laugh, read, FaceBook and Pinterest (instead of housework;)

Strengths: I am outgoing, and optimistic

Goals: Get more organized. Go on at least one date a week w/ my hubs, lunch dates count.
I have been HAPPILY married for 15 years.

I will be celebrating my 43nd birthday this

February.  I love being in my 40's!  I am kinder to myself and more forgiving of others. It just keeps getting better!!  You couldn't pay me enough to be in my 20's again!!

Life may not always be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance.

I went to my first Zumba class 3 ½ years ago (spring 2010).  I was 55 lbs overweight, and just didn’t feel like “myself”.  I loved being a mom, but I had lost that feeling of vibrancy with the fatigue and weight gain that came along with my pregnancies and the sleepless nights.

When I was dancing in Zumba class, I didn’t feel frumpy, fat and tired.  The dancing made me feel young, and like myself again.  It was a revelation!  I went to every Zumba class I could and weight started to come off.

Then my husband said that the MMA gym he went to wanted a Zumba Instructor.  He had told the owner that I was really good at Zumba (he had NEVER even seen me do Zumba!) and I should teach the class.  I was HORIFIED!  I told my husband, “NO WAY! I am too fat. Plus you need special training.”  He said, "Let’s look on-line and see what it takes to be an Instructor".

I found an Instructor course and put in my credit card info.   I just COULDN’T push “enter”.   I looked at my husband and said, “I want to wait and lose more weight first.”  He reached over and pushed the “enter” button and said, “You can do it.”   <--I LOVE him for that!!!

Many of my students are going through some very tough life challenges.  They count on my class for fitness and to help cope with stress, and SO DO I!  I move mountains to make sure I am there with a smile on my face.  Even the day my Uncle Jim tragically died in a motorcycle accident.  I cried all day, but I taught my class.
I danced that night knowing that we aren’t guaranteed tomorrow, so if something “turns you on” you better darn well DO IT!  Don’t wait until you lose weight, are older, have more money, have more time, etc…. DO IT NOW!

I have lost the 55 extra pounds I was carrying, but more importantly the friendships I made in the fitness class I chose, Zumba, have made my burdens lighter and my life more joyful.

Find a group of people to exercise with.  Make a point of talking to people in the class.  Having fitness buddies really helps.  You will feel much more motivated than on the treadmill in your basement.  It doesn’t have to be Zumba, but make sure you enjoy the work-out.  At least some aspects of it.

Make THIS the year you GO FOR IT and live your very BEST life!

Martha Graham~"I believe that we learn by practice. Whether it means to learn to dance by practicing dancing or learn to live by practicing living, the principals are the same. In each it is the performance of a dedicated precise set of acts, physical or intellectual, from which comes shape of achievement, a sense of one's being, a satisfaction of the spirit."

"Life is not about waiting for it to stop storming, it's about learning how to dance in the rain"

"Because of the close relationship between movement and personal experience, temperament, mental and emotional equipment: IT IS MANIFESTLY IMPOSSIBLE FOR EVERYONE TO BE TAUGHT TO DO THE SAME TYPE OF MOVEMENT.
